The city as a specific form of territorial organization of society very rarely becomes the object of philosophical analysis. Meanwhile, the importance of cities is growing in practice, and this should be reflected in theory. The
study of the processes of urbanization and the topic of the city as a whole is important from the point of view of the philosophy of history – in terms of identifying the relationship between the processes of urbanization and
social development, from the point of view of philosophy of culture and analysis of its modernization. It is also important from the point of view of the philosophy of the policy – in assessing the pros and cons of deepening of urbanization for the well-being of the nation.

Keywords: city, state, urbanization, urban studies.
