Abstract
The article aims to provide a systematic description of lexis related to the nomination of the traditional Sakha clothing which forms a certain thematic group as well as to identify the motivational indicators of nominating various outer clothing items, headgear, footwear and their parts in the Sakha (Yakut) language. Some traditional functions of clothes are also traced in the Sakha phraseology. Phraseology, which is understood here in a broader sense (including phraseological units-idioms, proverbs, riddles), enables us to identify important axiological connotations inherent in the names of clothing items or their parts. These idioms, present in the Sakha language picture of the world, are semantically a rich class which content covers many aspects of human life.
