Abstract
The article discusses various interpretations of the concept «language picture of the world» (language worldview) as it is represented in the recent Russian linguistic works. These adhere to one of the four major approaches: cognitive, psycholinguistic, cultural, and traditional. It has been established here that they share three common characteristics: direct link between the language worldview and the conceptual sphere, everyday nature of the language worldview, hard determinism between language and the language worldview. The conclusion is made that these four approaches to studying the language worldview seek each to describe its own aspect. Moreover, their common characteristics, unevenly represented in them, do not always allow to avoid contradictory accounts of the reality due to some significant methodological obstacles. The stated diversity of discrepant approaches and the common features they have make it therefore necessary to develop a unified language worldview theory, strong enough to remove contradictions (conflicts) in describing available empirical data.
